For only the third time in J.M. Robinson’s 12-year history, a new head football coach will be making the calls.
The Bulldogs will look to veteran coach John Fitz, the former assistant head coach at Catawba College to replace Bobby Cloninger who retired at the end of the season.
Fitz, who has been at Catawba, since 2006 previously spent six years at New Hanover High School in Wilmington, the last three as head coach where he compiled an 18-15 record. The Wildcats reached the playoffs in each of his three seasons.
Prior to his tenure at New Hanover, he spent 12 seasons as the defensive coordinator at Oxford Webb and began his career as an assistant at High Point Central.
Robinson opened its doors in 2001 with Tony Paroli as the first head coach. The Bulldogs enjoyed success early in their existence but have struggled in recent years and haven’t posted a winning season since 2004.
The Bulldogs have spent the last four years in the South Piedmont 3A Conference, are moving back to the 4A classification this fall.
