I did a little research to show how impressive Tom Knotts record is as a head coach in NC. According to NCHSAA records, Knotts is the 8th winningest coach in NC history and has done it in the quickest time and with the highest winning percentage.

Before you ask...there is a 1-1 mark in 2007 that is credited to Bill Geiler... and ofcourse the 2004 season where Indy went 16-0 was also coached by Geiler while Tommy Knotts was at Duke.

I've got to know Coach Knotts and have been able to witness first hand how he runs things. I've also attended several clinics where he was speaking.
He beleives in discipline, structure, and dominating teams. His practices are very structured where no time is wasted and his film sessions are a clinic also. I stood next to him while he was calling plays against Richmond County this year and you could just see how intelligent he is when it comes to football. |

Question....
Didn't Indy beat Butler during the Western Final maybe in 02 with Knotts in the hospital for his appendix or something? I can't recall exactly

I think it was menigitis and yes he was there but not looking too good. He actually was hospitalized for the Scotland game. He was still recognized as head coach. While suspended in 2007 he was not recognized as the head coach because it was an indefinite suspension.

Why was he indefinately suspended in 2007? Why were the two years listed as 0 and whatever after listing 12-2 or whatever? I don't live anywhere near Charlotte so all I know about Indy is that they have won a lot of championships.

I know when he couldn't coach in 2007 against Page in the play off game it was because of the altercation with a parent, where he pushed the chain link fence in the parents direction and supposedly hit the parent in the face because the parent was spewing at the mouth.

Bringing this up because its damn impressive that Coach Knotts has now taken every team he's ever coached to a state championship game.
Dutch Fork will face Gaffney this weekend in South Carolina in the big 4A finals. Coach Knotts is now 343-53. |

There are lots of great coaches out there, no doubt about it. But I don't know how anyone could possibly dispute the fact that Tommy Knotts is probably the best coach in history in NC and now possibly SC just for the mere fact that he has done this at every school he has ever coached.
Only 2 losing seasons in his career is incredible. I doubt that his feat is surpassed anywhere in the country. 4 different schools all in State Championship games. |

Mr. Hughes nail on the head Coach Knotts is one of the best to ever do it. But you made a slight mistake B.W. Holt was at Franklinton High (he coach some of my family members) |

Coach Holt did noach Franklin, but did coach at Franklinton. He also coached at Southwestern Randolph early in his career.
